      Thanks for the information. Treatments for Macular degeneration also controversial. I always wondered about quinine for cramp. My wife suffers with this and treatment we use is massage and Diazepam. She can then can get back to sleep.

        That's just it though, it wasn't a "routine prescription", it was specifically on the advice of an orthopaedic consultant and for a different indication to the one mentioned in that review. And there were no alternative medications available other than strong opioids.
