    could anyone tell me how i can dispose of a bottle of ammonia that i have had for ages, that my ex husband bought for cleaning our carpets!

    any advice would be much appreciated!

    I'm really sorry, but I missed this post. Here's a bit of info, although I guess it's a bit late now. Apologies.

    AmmoniaPotential hazards
    Respiratory irritant; DANGER: reacts with chlorine bleach to form toxic gas.

    Safer alternatives
    Substitute vinegar and water for windows, floors, etc.

    Proper disposal
    Dispose of small amounts by pouring down drain with lots of water.

    It depends on the quantity you have. If it's just a pint or two, just gradually pour down the sink and dilute with lots of water. Make sure you don't mix it with any other household cleaners, and do it in a well ventilated room as it can be irritant to your lungs.
