Start with a coarse grade and work your way down. Remember polish is not a finishing material - the work will need protecting afterwards (and the finishing material - eg wax - may need polishing itself, at even finer levels!).

Actually, I prefer polishing metalwork - it's relaxing in a switch-your-brain-off sort of way, and seeing the lovely shiny finish come up is very rewarding.

    Wood is more tactile tho.

      I remember the little ditty

      Shine your buckles with brasso
its only three 'alfpennies a tin
you can buy it or nick it from Woolies
but I doubt it if they've got any in

Personally I find sanding woodwork satisfying. The way it goes all smooth and smells nice.

I am reminded of the Edwardian Lady's take on gardening.

So do pharmacists do a lot of woodwork or is it just our blurry eyed friend from last night?

I belong to a woodworking forum woodworktalk.com and find it fascinating.

Very useful to have some woodworking skills as no maintenance done these days by most multiples. I am always repairing the dispensary stool and fixing shelves.
