It is a sink for people to pour time into.

I know plenty of Pharmacists who use it.

                    Re: Facebook anyone?

Hmm.. call me old fashioned but if I wanted to talk to my friends I'd pick up the phone or better yet go out and actually see them ! I don't really want to waste my hours adding my new friend Marvin from New Zealand or talking online to Maria from Spain about what she did (or didn't do) last night. I waste enough time on the net on this site....

no one is forcing you to contact random people on facebook or even to accept their add requests. for me personally i use facebook to get in touch with my friends from high school, the ones living abroad and other friends who i can not simply see that often.

                        Re: Facebook anyone?

I had a friend who used to blind email me and many other (faceless) people, sometimes with jokes but mostly with homilies about the wonders of friendship, how true friends are always there etc etc.

But they NEVER contacted me to say hello; when they were in my area (they lived in Wales but came often to London) I NEVER heard a peep. Emails to them went unanswered.

So after yet another homily I emailed back about what frienship is really all about; about chatting, about making time to phone, meet up. About being there. Not just forwarding emails.

No reply (again!) but I was thankfully dropped from their list. A few years later and I was invited to join their Facebook group. I declined.

The Society's museum has a page on Facebook. The idea is that as Pharmacy students use Facebook, the museum should have a presence. Good lateral thinking.

So what's the point of it then ?

[QOUTE=Raoul;22086] for me personally i use facebook to get in touch with my friends from high school, the ones living abroad and other friends who i can not simply see that often.[/QUOTE]

I think if old friends wanted to keep in touch then they would have made the effort sooner rather than later, and vice versa. But that's just my opinion.

                            Re: Facebook anyone?

initially facebook was created for university students to get in touch with each other, at that time no school students/random people/ workers...etc were allowed to join. the greediness of the creater ruined the site (IMHO) when all kind of networks were introduced for schools, companies, towns.....etc

currently all social events are being advertised for on facebook, in fact all university parties are advertised on facebook when someone create an event and invite friends on his/her lists.

i also used facebook for academic purposes when working in groups of 4-6, it is just easier for me to create a 'SECRET group' invite all the parities of interest and post anything you want for discussion. it was very helpful when people used to miss the meetings. i used to write a list of points we discussed/agreed on and post it so those who missed the meeting can read and comment.

facebook reminds me of friends birthdays and i find it a very reliable way. after all, i appreciate when people send me a birthday wish.

facebook gives you all the options from online chating, sending a private message, sharing posted uploaded photos and music with others.....etc, i no longer use hotmal msn or yahoo messenger, i use facebook msn. i find facebook a good storage system for all my photos.

facebook provides a good privacy measures( something this forum lacks as do a random sarch on google for 'Raoul' and you would spot all my posts here) as you can control who can search for you on facebook, who can see your photos, you can even remove the option to ' add as a friend' if you are annoyed with random people adding you.
as a creater of a social group with thousands of members, i removed the option to 'message me' as i used to get a lot of silly msgs from random people ( hate msgs, requests to delete a posted comment/uploaded photo.....etc)

i enjoy joining some political groups on facebook. i di not participate much in debates but i do enjoy reading others posts when i have nothing else to do.

for gossipers, not in my case, facebook is the best and easiest way to gossip. stockers also would love facebook :P

i say enjoy facebook, traveling, contributong on this form, socialising till it lasts. once we start working full-time, time becomes a priority.

Talking of politics, when I was young I was a communist so I could get hold of what other people had, then became labour supporter who I thought would give me the opportunity to better myself, then conservative when I discovered that it was a conservative, Rab Butler, who really founded the Grammar schools, once I had a few posessions, I learned towards the National Front to prevent the rest of the world taking them from me.
