  • Moving Abroad: Job Advice

    Hi there,

I am a UK GPhC-registered hospital pharmacist. Next year my partner and I are looking to work abroad for a year, possibly in Italy or Switzerland. I am looking for some advice regarding a sensible job I could do whilst we are away. Unfortunately I do not speak any language other than English, and I do not feel I have enough time to learn another language to practice safely. I know that I could get around this by looking for work in New Zealand, Canada, or Australia but these countries don't appeal to us as much as southern Europe! Does a job exist where I can work for a UK-based company/organisation remotely from home? Or is my best bet pharmaceutical industry? (Although I suspect my skills would be relatively useless in industry, I have no experience whatsoever).

Any advice would be appreciated! ...although who knows what will happen after Brexit....

    Cheers

Lots of people from many different backgrounds work teaching English as a foreign language. The TEFL qualification seems to be easy to acquire. For a short term option it is worth looking at. Other than working in hospitality it’s one of the few ways to earn a living in a country where you don’t speak the language fluently.
Your other option is to look at Ireland. If you move quickly you can join the register here. Climate is similar but it’s a different world!

Lots of English speaking jobs in Berlin. You have a masters degree so would have no problem getting a job.
