  • Question for Pharmacists

I really- really want to ask these questions and during the work exp I did not get the chance. I would be of most grateful if you can answer these questions for me in much detail as possible. Thank you.

    1. Why Pharmacy?
    2. Why did you choose to go in to community/ industrial/ hospital? If more than one of those options, please say why you decided to have a change.
    3. Can you describe to me some of the ethics involved.
4.In what ways are the role of Pharmacists changing?
5.How do you feel about prescribing drugs?
    6. What is your opinion on the future of Pharmacists?
    7. Can you describe to me the role of Pharmacists
    Many thanks in advance

    Personal Opinion and short answers.
    1. Compromise - I wanted to be a shopkeeper, my parents wanted me to go to University and take up a profession.
    2. Community - because I wanted to be a shopkeeper.
3.Treat every patient/customer the same way you would like a member of your own family to be treated.
    4. See lots of other threads on this site
    5. There's several thread on prescribers on this site
    6. Needs a long answer - but NHS is in a continual state of flux.
The theory (from the top) is that if change is made often enough practitioners will eventally give up thinking and just do as they are told.
In practice it means that given enough hard work and luck you can change your professional future to what you want it to be.
Google Claire Mackie, Mark Koziol and Karen Acott for examples.
    7. See question 6 - in the long term it's what you make it to be.

      1) Mixture of financial security and the possibility of being able to own a nutritional specialist store cum pharmacy (I wanted to own a health food shop, but was told that pharmacies are nice earners).
      2) Community...money
      3) Putting patient first even if it means going through hoops, getting into a bad relation (e.g. with the GP) or getting in trouble.
      4) It is a slow change, but there is more clinical and therapeutic knowledge required.
      5) I would like to be able to prescribe whatever I thought right for someone. Many POMs, when I know what to do with them and if beneficial I should be able to prescribe ASAP to the person who needs them, e.g. a aldy on anti-epileptic drugs whose found out whe's pregnant but her GP can't see her for a few days...I know she needs folic acid 5mg asap, but can't prescribe it by law.
      6) Advice on everyday health problems, checking prescriptions and assembled medicines to make sure they're safe. Advice on best ways to take drugs, and on optimally drug regimes.
