  • Just need clarification on EHC

    Hi everyone,

Just need to clarify OTC licensing for use of Ellaone and LNG within the same cycle.

SPC info about Ellaone: Concomitant use of ulipristal acetate and emergency contraception containing levonorgestrel is not recommended '.

    Not specific enough

    FSRH guidance says
'EC providers should be aware that if a woman has already taken UPA-EC, LNG-EC should not be taken in the following 5 days. EC providers should be aware that if a woman has already taken LNG-EC, UPA-EC could theoretically be less effective if taken in the following 7 days'.

    Also in the BNF

'Levonorgestrel should not be used (as emergency hormonal contraception) within 5 days of administration of ulipristal acetate (as emergency hormonal contraception), as the contraceptive effect of ulipristal acetate may be reduced by progestogens'.

Considering the change in the recent FSRH guidance , would any of you be happy to supply LNG and Ellaone to be used in the same cycle?
    Thanks

I personally wouldnt be happy to do so, but that is a reason why Medicines Info centres / Sexual Health clinics exist (help provide info to you and patients respectively)
