  • Magnetic Braclets?

Anyone got any information on how the magnetic braclets work?

We have just got a load to sell and Im not too keen selling stuff I know very little about.

Are they effective? Does anyone use one and got any feedback?

the bbc article saying they are helpful is older than the one saying they dont work, also the article "for" the bracelet shows some uncertainty about the results.

My opinion: Another example of the placebo effect. All pain is a electric signal from the nociceptors to the CNS, and doesn't have to go alonside say burn or injury e.g. neurophatic pain. So it's just a case of mind over matter really.

However magnetic bandages have appeared in the drug tarif - and for a NHS so keen on not wasting taxpayers money - I must presume that there is some evidence base.

I used magnetic plasters on a neck injury and they seemed to work for that, they are worth giving a go. Also a workmate used them on her knee with some good results. If someone wants to try alternative therapies when ibuprofen isn't an option and paracetamol just doesn't work then why not, silver plasters aid healing so why shouldnt magnets help with pain?

An editorial in the BMJ asks for more evidence:
