A reference book for the use of meds in pregnancy and breastfeeding?

I know theres the M.I. centre in Newcastle which speacialises in pregnancy but it takes an age for them to get to the point.

I was on the phone 36 minutes this morning for an answer for wether amitriptyline is safe in pregnancy. Now before I get bashed, I know there are protocols and they need as much info as possible but Im sorry am I expected to ask the lady of her past Obsteric history.

So I was wondering if there was a reference book I could use for standard queries and then rely on the M.I. dept for more indepth queries?

    Cheers Guys

Briggs Drugs in Pregnancy and Lactation? Drugs in Pregnancy and Lactation - home
          for more information.

When you ring an MI centre you have to remember all enquiries relating to pregnancy have to be kept for 20 years so they have to make sure they have all the information incase anything happens in the future with the patient.

A free good reference: Prescribing medicines in pregnancy

It's still an 1999 edition, but some amendments are available from the above link as well.
