  • Hair loss in women/men….help!

    Hiya ppl

Does anyone know how good the product ‘Nourkin’ and ‘Flouriscene’ is for hair loss in women? Anyone tried it?

I have a friend who is very young, but has noticed – the frontline hair is slightly ‘whispy’
The rest of her hair is very thick! She’s had a blood test and her iron levels are slightly low…..

    Any recommendations….??

Nouriken is supposed to be really good. I know a few ladies who have tried it and they say its working for them. Its a bit expensive though

clinical studies seem to suggest nourkrin really does work e.g.
      http://www.jimronline.net/content/full/2001/7/0081.pdf

But these are quite suspicious as the authors (e.g. Lassus) are associated with certain products containing nourkrin, and other than these, like all supplements evidence for effectiveness is limited.

Minoxidil is the only proven hair loss treatment in women.

Causes of hair thinning could be:

      -Thyroid problems
      -malnutrition
      -Recent illness, operation or stress
      -after child birth
-certain meds like warfarin, overdose of vit A
-fungal infections (try application of nizoral shampoo)

if the underlying problem(s) is/are solved there would be no need for hair loss prevention supplements, and nourkrin is quite dear, sorry for ignorin Flourescene, not familiar with that.

id say really good, I used to have a chronic dandruff problem, used this for a few months and realised I didnt have it any more.

To be honest all these head and shoulders and other anti-dandruff shampoos are just all talk and not much of the walk, while nizoral sings the talk and dances the walk.

side-effects: none really, unless you find you're allergic to it and also longer contact means more systemic absorption so avoid as affects/damages liver, keep it on scalp for max 5 minutes.

nizoral's also really really good at stripping almost all the oil out of your hair - squeak city!

not normally causes liver probs but ketoconazole can if systemically absorbed and the pt has hepatic impairment. It can also cause lotsa probs with interactions if it goes systemic in large amounts - from what i can recall it's a cytochrome inducer - p450 maybe? not sure...

The SPC said that there was approximately 2ng/ml in the blood post-topical use. - doesn't seem a great deal compared to oral use of ketoconazole tabs for e.g.
wake up and smell the 1,3,7-trimethyl-1H-purine-2,6(3H,7H)-dione

exactly laura - systemic absorption is minimal - the only way to get large amounts in the bloodstream from the shampoo is to walk around with it permanantly in your hair all day or to swallow bottles of the stuff (yuck!)

simple pharmacokinetics: The amount of systemic absorption from topical application is proportional to the contact time.

Thus my advice to keep it on scalp for 5 mins max. see CSM advice on use of ketocanazole, to see whether it causes hepatotoxicity or not, dont take my word for it.

it might sound stupid to you, but someone suffereing from bad dandruff might actually do that.

and i actually worry about people in general

very true solly - i often think this job seems to be more about protecting people from themselves.

had a bad one the other day. fairly normal customer buys some nurofen plus for back pain off me. cleaners find empty packet a couple of hours later next to an empty bottle of whiskey.

                            sigh.
