  • ciprofloxacin ear drops

Received script for these from local hospital ENT dept.

BNF states only available as non licenced product, so contacted the hospital pharmacy who had no product available and advised use of the eye drops.

Set me wondering re chloramphenicol ear drops given in error for eye drops.

Presumably chloramphenicol eye drops could be used for ears?

We have lots of these Rx from ENT clinic at local hospital. First time we saw one consultant confirmed ok to give eye drops for ear use.

Good link Jeff, will come in useful!

Why would you want to use the eye drops (0.5% chloramphenicol), when there exists chloramphenicol ear drops 5% and 10%?
Surely an ENT department wouldn't be p'bing for an eye condition?

Just musing. Most drops produced these days seem to be multipurpose eye/ear/nose.
