  • Pharmacy properties of dose form

    Hi guys!

Can anyone recommend good sources of information that I can investigate to find out about the formulations of various drug forms and excipients used in the formulation? Have had a look on Google and also here. Thanks!

This is a good source of information about excipients, if that is what you are looking for.

If it’s information about specific excipients in a particular drug, then the main source of information is the emc or the patient information leaflet. Remember that companies can change their formulations so you need to keep an eye out for any changes if it’s important to you or the patient. As an example, I use these sources to check that my medication is lactose free as I’m lactose intolerant.

You could do with improving your use of google as this information is easily available. In this case, I just googled ‘information about excipients in drugs’ and the search result brought up numerous sites including the two that I mentioned in this response. And my second search was for spc - Summary of Product Characteristics.

Garbage in garbage out! When at uni, instructed how to find information in a library. Libraries now substituted with Google in home use.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out!! I hadn't thought of the emc about getting this information. The other site you have mentioned is just what I was looking for.
