  • How to go about identifying a medication without the label?

Does anybody know what the best approach is, to identify a medicine for a patient (who has come in to a community pharmacy) which has no label attached?
    Any particular resources?

You can search for the particulars if it's a tablet / capsule ie "white round tablet f20" would return results probably for furosemide 20mg. And try to identify it against your own stock (I do this if I need to identify blister pack meds and the dispenser hasn't left evidence) however, if someone came to the counter I would not do this because you have no proof that the medication is theirs and you could a) identify it wrong and b) breach confidentiality of another person. Incidentally this did happen to me once "I found these tablets in my husband's wardrobe can you tell me what they are" of course not.
