A pharmacist I work with had a chat with a top bod from Cegedim and he doesn't reckon that ETP will roll out the way they say because after phase2 the next satge will be immediate payment for pharmacists and HMG can't afford that.

Don't know how true this is but obviously Cegedim have two of the ETP recognised systems on the market so you think they'd have some knowledge of the situation.

Can't see this being a major problem for HMG beyond the first three months. It would also mean that they can close off the fiscal year two months earlier. But I'm no expert on these matters.

Just found a report that for 2006 net ingred cost for all Rxs was £8 179 M.

A quarter of that is £ 2000 M.

Quite a bit extra to cough up even/especially for HMG.

Again as I said I'm not sure how true this comment was but that figure alone makes it seem quite possible. IMO anyway.

The D**** M*** would say that the drugs bill is increasing because pharmacists are dispensing too many prescriptions.

The D***** M*** would probably say that the bill is increasing because we're dispensing too many Rxs to illegal immigrants that take our jobs!

That's about right.
No matter how high you fall from there's a nice feather bed, courtesy of HMG.
Remember all the reserves that were spend on propping up the pound in the ERM?
Billions just wiped away.

all the pharmacies i locum in either a)dont use etp cos its too slow b)have got the system but it doesnt work c)have the owner/pharmacist card to hand to bung in the slot in case the locum's card doesnt work or he/she forgets it or d)the doctors printer has not printed the bar code clearly enough to scan or e) any permutation you want of a b c or d all in all its not very impressive----as usual with these systems- designed by someone sat on their backside in a nice quiet room with no idea what its like having patients moaning about waiting 5 minutes
