If anyone here does locums in Scotland, you'll likely know about this, but the problem is what to do when you're a locum? I take work via 2 agencies, one I very rarely take any work from (scottish agency), and one I get most of it through(agency based in Birmingham which gets me work throughout scotland). The one I get barely any work through, says they can sign me up through the PVG scheme, but my main agency cannot and have never heard of the scheme and not being very helpful there.
This is straightforward if you are with one employer at one store or whatever, but they haven't thought about locums, and if I signed up the usual way, I would have to pay £18 every time I do a locum! Ok, I am in the process of getting documents through the scottish agency, which makes me a pseudo-employee through them, but what about the locum work I get through the english agency? Will this be covered by the PVG scheme? Just throwing it out there just in case anyone else is in the same boat.
Re: Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme in Scotland
I am in the process of applying for a PVG, I'm guessing through the same Scottish agency. I spoke to them on the phone on Friday as I have never had any work through them and wanted to check that it would cover me for direct bookings. They assured me that it would and I would get my own copy of the statement. If any future employers want their own copy I would expect them to pay for it! Having a few problems filling in the form though as it is aimed at people who are employed by one company, think I will be back on the phone to them tomorrow!
