MIMS and the iphone / ipad

Just wondering if it was just me or if anybody else is doing it.

Finding the BNF in a busy dispensary is a pain in the neck. It seems to sprout legs and go for walks around the place - either that or it is an out of date BNF. Has anybody else used the MIMS app on their iphone? Absolutely fantastic! Well worth a look.

If your iphone works in the pharmacy, I'm sure its good. Practically impossible to get signal/connection in our Pharmacy!!

Get Micromedex Drug information. American app but great for reference purposes. Doesn't need signal either - works offline

If I'm told it's not allowed to use a phone in the dispensary, I tell them I have to, it's an essential part of my professional tools. (Mostly as a reference source and phone book. It's the cheapest Samsung available and can't do anything else. ) Problem is, in most Boots H&B there is no signal anywhere!

Well ... Got over the iPhone issue as I have an iPad. Can't really use that for phone calls now can you?

Mimms is fantastic. Also works offline too

I do get a bit miffed at this rule sometimes. I suppose there are a number of jobs out there where carrying your own personal phone is considered inappropriate and a distraction. However it can be beneficial. For example, the ability to have two phones at hand in case a call fails to get through on one can be very handy. Take working for a multiple. In cases like exceptionally bad weather e.g. snow storm; or a riot, your employer has an obligation to balance the need to keep the pharmacy open with the wellbeing of the staff. Relevant phone calls must be made (remember the bewildering management hierachy of your typical multiple, it's like the 18th levels of Hell). In our modern era, an absolute ban on this handy device is rather dated.

Also, I've found that inappropriate things in the pharmacy can be photographed e.g. blocked fire exits, non functioning bathrooms; and any dodgy stuff that your lovely employers are hoping won't be noticed.
