Pharmacists effectively had a monopoly over dispensing and checking prescriptions. Now that there are ACTs, the real value of a locum will be set by default by the market. If locums really had the value of £25 per hour, then the market will set the value as such. If this is not happening then we need to realise that the only reason why we were able to charge these rates was because we effectively had an artificial cartel over the rights to check dispensed medicines. Now that the cartel is being dismantled, the real value of our work is actually being recognised.
