    First locum shift in Superdrug

    Hi all,

Just looking for some info please.

I'm working a locum shift in superdrug this saturday for the first time. I understand they use pharmacy manager which I'm familar with.
But can anyone enlighten me with the claim process for locum fees for superdrug?

    Thanks!

ASk for the locum claim book. Fill it in. I usually sent off white copy as often forgotten by management. Ask for an envelope. Keep the yellow form for your records and the blue remains in the book. Useful to see who else is working and what they claimed. Mrs Mills at Croydon used to look after payments, ensure they have your bank details and usually paid following week.

Just one thing though, not about payment, but about Pharmacy Manager. Superdrug actually use Pharmacy Manager the way it's supposed to be used, with accurate stock control, the use of Prism and in certain circumstances Fixed Prism, separate Shop and Dispensary orders (you log the dispensary order in, but just delete the shop order). Etp works well, so ask for the premises smartcard and use it. Scan, pick, scan again and see it work! If you're working on a Saturday, you're probably working alone in the dispensary, so be careful. You may have a counter assistant, but they will not be dispensary trained, so don't expect help. There will be a list of the tasks you're supposed to do or get done, starting with 'Sign the Responsible Pharmacist Register' You'll probably have to do the CD check. Do it in the afternoon. To log on to Pharmacy Manager you need to put your GPhC registration number into a log-in screen, with a password that Cedegim will give you (08446 302000 option 2). There is an emergency user name and password, which the shop manager will give you, but only ever use it once. Get your own. There is a client machine in the consultation room, and it runs Pharmacy Manager, so start that up as well. It will complain that you don't have a label printer there, but just ignore that. MURs are done within PM. Click on the icon that looks like a filing cabinet and it will lead you through the process. Remember to complete the review. The orders should go automatically at fixed times. They deal with AAH (and Unichem where they have to.)
I quite like Superdrug as a locum.

Prism is a way of stock counting and ordering. forgot what Fixed Prism etc means but I do know that gives good flexibility. Eclipse had a system where could top up stock, but also accumulate an order for short line wholesaler.
I also enjoyed working for Superdrug. usually quite large and air conditioned. Slightly elevated so could see all that was going on but did not feel like a goldfish.

Funnily enough, I did my first ever shift with SD today. I'm with johnep. Helped a lot that it's a quiet branch on the whole and the regular pharmacist is as neat, tidy, organised and alphabetical as I am... which is rare!

Prism works out what stock you need, based on the last three months usage, and the number of days stock you tell it you need. Fixed Prism, on the other hand, accepts a stock level from you and works round that. Fixed prism is for three circumstances. 1) Products you don't want to keep in stock, but only order when you get a script, such as gluten-free bread, 2) Products that you keep in dispensary stock but sell more than you dispense and 3) new products, where you set the re-order level as the same as the product it replaces, or a reasonable guess if it is completely new, and revert to ordinary Prism after about a month. Both categories require accurate stock control, issuing what you use either through prescriptions or by transfer to the shop, and booking orders in.

Fixed prism is also better for fast moving lines that are cheap so keep plenty to reduce owings.
