Would like to get everone's feedback on whether it is worth getting an accountant or not to prepare me and Mrs Cymri72's tax returns.
I myself have relatively simple affairs, being mainly an employee pharmacist with locum dates on the side amounting to about 10k per year.
The wife on the other hand, was an employee pharmacist until December 2010, but is now a locum, and will need to do a return on about 25k for 2010/2011.
Is it worth getting an accountant? is it worth the money?
For my return last year I done it myself online with no issues. I am pretty confident with completing and submitting my wife's tax return. Will he/she be able to save any money? When I first started in pharmacy back in the mid 90's, locums used to say you could claim for food, cost of car and depreciation, the good old 'room for business use' and telephone, mobile costs. I have since heard that claiming all of this will probably land you with an investigation!
Is there much you can claim for these days? Seems that people are even having problem with mileage claims now!
I do my own. I claim for most of that (not the food allowance... should look into that....) - also professional fees: GPhC, PDA. I can't see the point of an accountant for this level of complexity.... I may change my mind if they decide to investigate me!
