    Wanting to change career

Hello. After only a couple of years in community pharmacy I am fed up. It has got to the point where the prospect of going to work makes me depressed. I try and be positive in general. I worked hard at university for 4 years but I am receiving no reward for it, and there is little potential for any career progression. Also with the financial state of the country I don't think things will improve any time soon. I think my best option is to go back to university. I am think of either optometry or dentistry. For dentistry I would have to take a tough exam (gamsat) to help get an interview. My parents think I should be happy being a pharmacist but they don't understand what the job is like. I think I will get some work experience of both so I will know what to expect. Is anyone else thinking of doing something similiar?

You're at the same stage as me (and same age it appears), I'm looking to industry at the minute as I am also fed up with community. If I can't get into that, may consider something completely Pharmacy unrelated but another 5 year course doesn't appeal to me. Heard recently of former classmates at uni who are now on their way to becoming airline pilots, teachers etc

I think it would be the same man. What I would do is do it part-time and do something else with your time. Honestly pharmacy full time is soul destroying!

Except with the community, it is almost certainly true.

Agree with culchie82, newby82 and many others....Just turned 28, spent good 4 years in community pharmacy and fed up with getting rabbit out of the hat every single day. Friends and family have no idea what is going on behind the dispensing bench. That's very true! Such an easy money as they always say.... Have been thinking of a switch to CRA related job or medical writing but don't know where to start. Do not have any senior level clinical pharmacy knowledge or project management skills either. Any ideas?

Its only 3 hours a week at first. Still its a start like you said. There was another IT job in the same edition of the PJ.

I looked at becoming a helicopter pilot when I was P155ed off with 500 items a day but the £80k minimum training costs and no guaranteed job at the end of it made me move sideways with my degree.

I've recently taught my self how to be a stock broker - This week I got lucky and made a months salary!
