I want to become pharmacy technician?

    Hi Everyone!

I am from India,I have recently done GCSE MATHS,ENGLISH .I am here on spouse visa.I want to start my career as Pharmacy Technician.
I always wanted to become PHARMACIST but problem is I can't study full time 4 years,as I got family responsibilty and I have to work.

I want following advise from all experience people :-
    1. If I do Pharmacy Technician course from open university, what is the scope of job?Is it easy to get?
    2. I came to know its 2 years part time,Is that true?
    3. After completing the Pharmacy Technician course,Is there anyway I can convert it into PHARMACIST course.I mean any option to do that PHARMACIST Course as its 4 years degree?

Please help me and advice me asap.
    Thanks

    Regards

    Nimana

    Good for you.
Sorry no short cuts to either career.
Pharmacy Technician is a practice based course that you do alongside working as a dispensing assistant.
There's no way to do it as an academic subject.
There is no short cut to a pharmacy degree - its four years + pre-reg.
If you have pharmacy experience the practical side of the course is not as daunting.

    Good luck
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

I would suggest looking for jobs as a counter assistant as a way in, then if you show an interest in dispensing, you can progress to train as a Pharmacy Technician. Thats the way I, and the majority of my colleagues, got into the job. That way most employers will fund your training. We had a young woman join our Pharmacy having completed the theory side of a Pharmacy Technician course, but had to start from the beginning as she had no practical experience. Not all Pharmacies are the same, but I work for a very large chain.

    Saturday girl/boy......MCA course......MCA........Dispensary Assistant course.....Dispensary Assistant......Pharmacy Technician Course

That's a popular way of becoming a Tech. There are other ways of course. Once qualified there are some jobs around in hospital or community pharmacy that may be of interest to you. There are no correspondence/distance learning Pharmacy Tech courses that I know of and no short cuts. So, tons of hard work and studying ahead if you decide to go for the Pharmacy Tech. Good luck
