    Dentistry for pharmacists

Hello. Does anyone know of what chances there are for mature students and pharmacy graduates to get on dentistry courses? I am looking at this as a possible option as I don't feel like I am being challenged in community pharmacy. Pharmacies make big profits yet as an employee pharmacist you dont see any of this. They let technicians with no a levels and a few gcses become pharmacists so I was hoping pharmacists may have a chance of getting on a dentistry course. I heard the dental society supports uk graduates more than the pharmacy society.

A couple of students went on to study dentistry after getting the B Phm. One had a grant from the RAF.

i haven't done this conversion myself but i'm guessing you will be treated like any toher mature student with a degree under your belt.....i guess the pharmacology side of things will be an added bonus when studying. i know from friends who have gone on to do dentistry, you have to prove you are dextrous (?) with your hands

sounds a bit wrong to favour mature students over new students. i think you being a pharmacist won't add any additional weight behind your application next to someone with a biochemistry degree........

are you really that desperate to spend another 5 yrs at uni, studying alongisde 18yr olds to look down someones mouth all day...ok i guess the pay will be considerably better, so there is a silver lining somewhere

I thought that dentists were particularly unhappy with the state of the NHS too!

It would take 4 years as checked on UCAS (the same as for medicine), as they have grad entry routes at some of the Uni's

Also seen that you can do grad entry to Veterinary Medicine as well, so why dentistry when it is the same price and lenth of time as Veterinary Med and Medicine which are just as well paid, if not better paid jobs ?

Dunno about a doctor being a better job, working at the hospital means very stressful enviroment, long hours,etc... Yeah i see what you mean, still better than what we're doing, lol. Seriously though, I thought Dentists make the most money out of all those professions?

Maybe on average, it depends if you get to be a partner and all that. Maybe they get paid better by the NHS than Doctors do, but don't see there being much in it if you were a partner in a company.

Thought it went like this tho
Vet, if you couldn't make it as a vet you become a dr, if you couldn't make it as a Dr become a Dentist. I have nothing to base this on just the thoughts in my own head lol

I am not even a pharmacist yet.... odear lol

If its money you want to make why not make a complete changes and do something in Finance, like be a financial adviser, they make loads of money if you are good at selling stuff. The bank I used to work at had FA's and IFA's and they made like 100k+ a year the good ones that is, even the cr@p ones made good money. Plus if you are willing to study like 4 years again, the diploma you have to take before you can be an IFA/FA would be a peice of cake to you?

Or an accountant or lawyer, would think you would not havde to do the 3 years for either of them?

    Re: Dentistry for pharmacists

I know it is wrong to think about money to much, but when I have a family I want to live in a nice area and send them to good schools. The state schools in my area are a joke. I had looked at working in Canada as a pharmacist as I would be be able to buy a biggr house and live by the mountains. It must be hard for dentists dealing with screaming children, but then we have to deal with drug addicts. I don't like animals particularly so wouldnt want to be a vet. By the time I did another degree I would be be 32 or 33 when I finished, depending on when I applied. I think this is still fairly young. Another alternative I looked at is airline pilot but I am slighty colourblind so I have no chance.
