What I have to know about locum pharmacists before starting to work???
(Sorry for my not good level of English)
I am interested to work as a locum pharmacist and
would be really helpful if someone could respond to my following inquiries:
1. For being accepted to work as a locum pharmacist it needs to have an experience or also people
without any experience at all could start work immediately doing an initial training???
A friend of mine works as a locum pharmacist for Boots in the area of London and initially she did
one month of practice to get familiar with the job but I don t know if this occurs regularly....
2. Is that true that a locum pharmacist could earn more than a retail pharmacist and how much rougly
could earn??? Is better to work for big chains like Boots, Loyds or for small drugstores??
3. Is better to search for a job about locum pharmacists by yourself or go to a special agency???
What matters I have to pay attention to when I am searching for a job as a locum pharmacist or when I am
negotiating for a contract ?? What are my rights???
4. What kind of fees I have to pay as a locum pharmacist??
5. How easy is to find a job as a locum pharmacist??
6. What are the main advantages and disadvantages of being a locum pharmacist???
Re: What I have to know about locum pharmacists before starting to work???
Oh boy.. As I understand you moved to UK recently and want to start locuming straight away? This is a very brave move.
1) Theoretically you can start locuming as soon as you get registered with RPSGB. But please don't do that unless you want to end up killing someone.. Not even mentioning all the embarrassment you're gonna come accross. Another thing: if you screw up, that will be the last time you went to that pharmacy. You'll get reported to the agency which gonna put you at the bottom of the locums list..
2) If it's just a bout the money: This is not true anymore. The salaries are about the same at the end of the day.
3) Doesn't matter. As long as you get the rate you are willing to work for.
4) Indemnity insurance and RPSGB fees.
5) It's not easy if nobody knows you especially if your english needs improving.

I believe poster is Italian speaking. Therefore best to try in an area where would be an advantage. Bedfordshire has high level of Italian origin population. There is an Italian prog on the local 3 counties bbc radioo.

Hey I started an online course for UK pharmacy locums who want to be a bit more prepared. Its called Pharmacy Cross Platform Acreditatiion. It basically teaches you the tricks of the trade of being a locum and how to use all the different computer systems. You can find it at RPSGB pharmacy practice exam syllabus questions.
