Question Locum pharmacist opportunities in Scotland

Hi! I am a EU pharmacist with 3 year experience as a relief pharmacist for one of the national pharmacy chains. At the beginning of next year I want to start as a locum pharmacist to join work and travelling in one. I am wondering, because I only worked in England, what is the difference in scottish pharmacy, as far as the services are concerned. What is different in Scotland, comparing to England. Do I need to be accredited to some extra servicec to do every day pharmacist job?? I heard that the hourly rate is lower in Scotland. Is £25/hour possible?? That would probably satisfy my soul... Please anyone help me, and answer my doubts. Cheers. Luca.

you are right about the hourly rate. £25 is too ambitious, more like £20 an hour here. Also, if you're coming to Glasgow, be ready for a lot of competition, there is barely enough work here if you don't know the right people.

Assuming no recent rate change, you will be paid a higher rate in the highlands/western isles of Scotland, and accomodation is usually provided for you. Be aware, however that whilst the quality of life there is pretty impressive, you will be isolated from city life, and you must be prepared to accept the sometimes quirky traits of the local residents. If you're happy with all that, then I thoroughly recommend that you do it. It's probably the most beautiful part of Scotland..a joy to behold.

I can confidently offer you this advice because I have been there, I have done it, and I am Scottish.

    Slainte!

    Fleeg.
