    Choosing a Pension

    Hi,

Any advice how to choose a pension scheme for NHS locums?

    Thank you.

    Re: Pension

If you are employed as a relief by a trust, then will be on their pension scheme.
If you are self employed, then up to you.
Trend is to asset purchase rather than money at the moment.

Well, a firm of advisers advertises on this forum, Shipley's, who would be able to help you with a formal product.

But I would be trying to get into property, at the moment, if at all possible, because as we have seen, pension funds are not as flexible or safe, and tax relief on buy to let, for instance, is pretty useful. Small, "cheaper" properties that can be let unfurnished might be good. And they can be bought and sold to suit your tax situation at the time, rather than the government's rules.

My advisors tell me that my pension now is about 70% max of what it would have been if I'd been able to take an annuity ten years ago! Good job I enjoy working!

    Re: Choosing a Pension

Although I have NHS pension now, I also have private pension from 'previous' life. Good starter advice is on Martin Lewis' Money Expert website. Esp if you go for mixed portfolio, shares are now cheap and will sponge up if you still have 30-35 years to pension :-)
