    Locum in London? I´m relief

    Hi
I´m thinking to change to a locum pharmacist.I´m a currently relief pharmacist in the north west .I´ve been with the company 9 months and i have a permanent contract, and a good relationship with my area managers, staff,etc...They want me to be a store manager
The thing is my girlfriend has an offer in a company (she is not pharmacist) and maybe we may to move to London.
I was wondering to change to a locum.I know inside the company you can apply to move , but I would like to have more freedom and choose which days to work ( I would like to do a diploma of another subject which will be 2 days a week ) for that reason locum is the best choice.
I´m currently a relief so i have to do the same locum´s job but employed by the company. My idea is to work 4 days a week ( all Saturdays included)

Could you give me some counselling, please?

    Thanks everybody!

What are you after? i could not understand you....
register with some agencies, send your CV to some independents......etc
heard that the rate is low, so expect something around 19-22/hour (if not less).

    Welcome to the forum

Ey thanks for the quick response.
Well I´m not a locum, i don´t know how to apply for a job as a locum. The thing is i´m moving to London ( hopefully) and i don´t know how to apply for a locum job.
I would like to work 4 days a week , Saturdays included, because I´m going to need 2 days off in the middle of the week to study.
How can apply in the agency? should i send the cv and say: this is what i want? is so easy?

About the rates, is 25 per hour overhere.

    Thanks a lot!

    Not in london
call into a couple of pharmacies on arrival to london, introduce yourself and leave your contact number (business card maybe?). register with a couple of locum agencies, they will get you all the work.... they charge employers so you should not be worried about that. With time, you will learn which pharmacies to avoid ( the understaffed ones, the very busy ones....etc).

I seriously do not know what to say, will leave it for locums to help you there.

are you after a tax advice? finding jobs? locuming in general? self employed status?

    Regards

    Is a little bit confused.
I´ve been in this country for 10 months, and I don´t know really well the locum pharmacist job, I know they are substitutes when the manager is off, but I don´t know if they are independents or they are working with an agency,etc....
I´ve met a couple of locums here and they recommend me to change as a locum. You work when you want.Is that true?

Let´s see what the locums say.

Thanks a lot for the answer

    Locum Money Facts.
    1. You have to take care of your own income tax. This is paid in two installments per year. You must put money away to pay this.
    2. You do not get holiday pay or sick pay.
    3. You might not get regular work.
    4. Some pharmacies are slow at paying.
    5. You can claim expenses that are offset against your income tax, but these are only allowances and not the full amounts.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

I see. There are different kinds of locums.
    Independents
    Agency locums,etc...
The thing is can i go to the agency and say :
I'd like to work Mon.Wed,Fri,sat and they'll find the job for me?

Can i go to the independents and leave my Cv?
It's gonna be my first time as a locum so , do you recommend me an agency to start?

Re: Locum in London? I´m relief

I work now only on Saturday mornings and Sunday rota, with perhaps the occasional Monday at a normally busy pharmacy or any day at a quiet pharmacy. Locum work means you are self employed and you set whatever days/hours you want to work.
No one will offer you work because they do not know you exist at present. You will have to market youself. Plenty of advice here, but do not expect us to find work for you. Sign up to a couple of agencies.
