Getting into doing hospital locum work

Hi all, i am a community locum but would like to start doing locums in hospital - only problem is, i have no formal experience apart from during my undergrad days. I asked one agency about it, but they just said 'no chance' and were not very helpful. I guess i could just take a band 6 job for six months or a year and then switch to locum - but is there anyway to get in straight from community?

If you can find a hospital post which is pretty much out-patient dispensing and checking, extemp prep, bulk prep, and ward boxes, then you would be ok. Anything ward related (except cd checks) eg. clinical or medicines-management you should not attempt..not to mention any sterile preps or TPN...I base this on my own experience from a good few years ago. I'm sure there is much more involved now.

have heard hospital locums pay better and the work is more varied and interesting. maybe i will have to start in a band 6 job and get my experience, then move. only problem is, ive become accustomed to community money and to do this id take a hit of 15k or so per annum...i don't know if i can afford to do that with my commitments. Thanks for your comments fleegle.
