Does anyone have experience of this. I once worked with pharmacist when newly qualified and he got 2 hours travel (so at least 11 hour day) plus excellent rate, 30 an hour or more. He did it most days. Is this worth doing or to risky?

I would say that it depends where you live, and how far you are prepared to travel. I prefer to charge less and choose where I work (close by!)
In your place, if I lived in Central London, I might keep a couple of days free a week, the busy locum days, say Friday and Saturday? or maybe Sunday? and try that on in emergencies if I wanted to work the extra days.
Don't expect to enjoy it, though. Expect places where other locums don't want to work, as well as genuine emergencies.
....just my opinion
I know the posts above are VERY old, but I thought will let you know how the rates have changed recently in this agencyLast minute locums current rates at the moment are rather funny. The last offer I had from them was for £20/hr in the middle of the summer (east midlands). I know it's probably the pharmacy who dictates the rates, but still I have never heard such a low rate..
