Fact of life, where large ethnic community then surplus of pharmacists, ie london and Birmingham. Pharmacy, Medicine and Law are traditional aims of 2nd generation who do not want to work in the corner shop etc.
Where low ethnic community, plenty of locums available. I often meet locums who have driven from West London or Birmingham to East Anglia.

Its like working for the NHS with a bit more red tape. They do provide good training opportunities but the scope for promotion is limited as the posts are pretty much set in stone.
When in export I used to visit Gibraltar, stayed at the Rock or the hotel on other side away from noise of shipyard.
Visited the Naval hospital and became friendly with the pharmacist at the time, Phillip Ho.
He was keen on scuba diving. Later he was posted to Hasler in Portsmouth and I visited him there when working on the IOW. He was looking for a job with scuba possibilities and I suggested Bermuda.

The Naval Hospital and the medical centre closed in February 2008. We are now in a purpose built primary and secondary care unit, much smaller, it also houses the dental unit.
If you are in the regular forces then you can, there are only a handful of pharmacists in uniform, the rest are civilians like me (also a handful). As far as i know there is one pharmacist in the navy and one in the RAF, these two are civllian, the rest are in the army or work for mod as civilians.
