Lloyds travel expenses

Hi there. I'm relatively new to locuming. At the end of the day I fill in my hours, rate and total mileage etc. I have always travelled at least 40 miles one way. I thought that they would deduct 40 miles off my total, but when I checked my pay they have paid me for the total number of miles I have travelled. What should I do? I'm a bit concerned

Dont panic, just talk to the area administrator who will give you the rules. He or she had authorised your claim, and will put you on the right track for the future.
Best to get it sorted and then you will relax.

wow really??!! but unfortunately this kind of travelling is just not for me... a reason that I don't wanna be a locum... yet

In the old days people lived next to the place of work. The image of a boatyard/mill at the end of the road is shown in Lowry's paintings.

Come the trains, in particular the London Underground, and the idea of living in the country and working in town became a possibility.

In the 60s few people owned cars and house prices in villages were much lower than in towns. As a rep, I had a car (main reason for being a rep) and we were able to have a nice bungalow five miles out of town. Now village prices are often higher than town, but the car has given freedom to live where you like.

50 mile commutes in both directions not uncommon. One locum lived in Kent, but I often met him in Northampton pharmacies. Even here in East Anglia, the locum book shows people driving down from Birmingham and from West London.
If you are young, then you can do it. For me, a 30 mile drive to work is my limit, but 20 miles is routine.

My experience of Lloyds is that they take 40 miles off all claims - an are surprised that locums don't want to travel 40miles through a city.

Re tax, for the first 10 000 miles, you can claim 40p/mile, and 25p / mile thereafter, so if Lloyds pays £2.50 for your 50 mile claim (50-40 * 25p), you can claim £17.50 against tax ([50 * 40p] -£2.50). This isn't £17.50 in your hand, but it does reduce your marginal rate by eg. £17.50

You must understand that mileage claimed against tax is not cash in hand, it simply reduces your tax demand by that amount.
