    rowlands cd cupboards

I have done some locum work for a few Rowland pharmacies and have found that they use cd cupboards as safes also..Can they do this? some have electronic safes with keypads which staff have access to.. is that o.k? I have seen a local inspector recommending that the cd key at the end of the day is stored in such a way ( eg a signed bag) so that the pharmacist knows the following day no one else has had access to the cd cupboard.. This wouldn't work in the Rowlands I have been to..

It should be OK, as long as there is an SOP that covers who can have access to the CD cupboard and when and why. There should be a list of names and roles of which staff members are in posession of the code.
As for keeping CD keys in signed envelopes: while it sounds like a good idea, it still isn't foolproof because, when I come in on a tuesday morning after my regular monday off, I have no idea what the monday locum's signature should look like, so how could I tell whether it really is his/her signature on the envelope?

SD request keys in sealed numbered bag and that each pharmacist records nbr of bag received and bag sealed.

All staff allowed to access the CD cabinet have their own code and no one is allowed to access until pharmacist has keyed in their code at start of day. Head Office can track who has had access at a given time.

As far as I am aware all shops have a separate safe and CD cabinet although work on similar principles access codes are different.

Most of the cd cupboards with electronic pads that rowlands use automatically upload full details of which code was used and at what time, and how long the cupboard was open for. They are also tied into the alarm system (i'm guessing the logging of the alarm systems that goes on there is part of the same system setup) and inputting certain codes (i won't say what codes on a public forum) will set off the silent alarm as if you pressed the panic button.
Unfortunately if you're in and out of the cupboard all bloody day the batteries in the lock mechanism run down really quickly. Then you have to play around for bloody ages getting the pad to work again as it thinks it's been disconnected for bypass.

And the majority of rowlands cd cupboards in the areas i worked in are more than secure to the min requirments of cd cupboards - most of them using digital pads are built to fire safe specs and they use them as the safe too.

So they are a "one stop shop" for robbers.
