    Re: Locum Pharmacy Technicians

I spoke to someone at locum excite a couple of months ago. The guy at the agency said that it is growing business & they think it will become as usual as locum pharmacists (may have been selling!!) He said rates depended on experience but £12-13/hr approx average.

I would guess that bookings are probably more blocked than for pharmacists -if a pharmacy is short of a tech for 1 session or so then they can cover with pharmacist helping to dispense, but may need cover for holiday/longer sick leave etc.

It can open a can of worms, the staff already there resent that they are paid more for (usually) doing less. I know one of the hospitals a few years back ended up losing most of their techs to become locums once they started using agencies who charged higher rates. It worked well for me because I worked there as a locum in uni hols! The company I currently work for (supermarket) have a policy that they do not employ locum techs.

sensible locums sounds good - but can you specify how sensible you want them?
I suppose locums excite could get into more trouble....

there are locum pharmacy technicians. Agencies to check out are Pulse Staffing, Sensible Locums, JCJ Locums, the Locum Group. You'll get a better rate of pay if you work through a company. For a company service try Sound Administration Services or others from a google search.

    good luck

Hi, I work as a locum pharmacist and what dave says is true, its best to go through an agency as they will havecontacts and do all the leg work in finding you a contract. He mentions JCJ, I work through HCL, they own JCJ and have a much bigger spread of clients. I dont think they have a Nottingham office but they do cover England from London, just google them, say I reffered you and I get VIP points cheers.

If there are any regional/local aganecies in your area try them - They tend to know local requirements more than the nationals.
    This is a growing area.
