No, I'm not having a go! My husband calls me tubs! I meant I like nice, well proportioned pay packets, that's all.

Default £2 per hour

Locums

Do you think there should be some kind of national rate for locums? I realised today, that a difference of just £2 per hour on a 40 hour week, equals £346 per calender month. That's a lot of money, and would pay a big chunk off most people's mortgages.

Do you think it would be possible to achieve this, instead of the "supply and demand" and "grab as much as you can" we have at the moment.

Any thoughts?

The thought I always have when things like this are mentioned is that it's a good idea but try getting anyone to back it up.

This profession never stands together and never does whta it needs to to get anything done.

Look at the dentists they said we're not taking it anymore and told the NHS to stuff it now the government's trying its best to win them back but failing dismally.

Yes it's a pain finding an NHS dentist but I applaud their strength of resolve and the fact that they all stood together to get what they wanted.

So why are we such wimps in this job?

Most pharmacists I know would just stand there taking a barrage of abuse etc.

I am the only pharmacist I know who refuses methadone to intoxicated people.

Why do most of us act like this? Do you think it's in the training, or the type of person attracted to the job?

My missus always said that before she met me she thought that all pharmacists were nutters. Now she's sure of it!

I think the real problem is that part of our trainign has always been to be afraid of the Stat Com, the drugs squad, basically everybody.

Make sure you do this or it's illegal and you'll be done etc.etc. etc.

Then there's the older pahrmacists who were trained and worked when pharmacists were respected and feel that they shoudl do everything for everyone. The problem is that the world is a very different place today and if you delivered every single Rx that you received all you;d get is complaints because you left someone's gate open or knocked their begonias as you walked up the path!
