Exclamation Work Permit - Will it be a problem?

I'm a newly qualified hospital pharmacist and would love to earn a bit more cash on the side doing some locums. I'm also a work permit holder. Just wondering if it would be a problem to locum for other companies. Would appreciate any advice regarding this matter. Thanks!

Can't see any immediate problem..as long as you are rpsgb registered as a pharmacist, you can work in whichever field you choose. Just one thing..your reference to "a bit more cash on the side"..unfortunately, locum earnings are also taxable by law...tread carefully.

I did locums for 20 years while in industry. I kept them in separate account.

If only do a few then should declare on tax form. Best to do it properly as can the claim all the usual expenses, mileage etc. I never made a profit for about 15 years and the 'loss' was just deducted from PAYE. Learnt this from a chap at work who wanted a large house and bought a chicken farm. He never ran it as a proper business but was able to deduct 'losses' from his PAYE.

'Gentleman farmers' just do it on a larger scale.

Once stayed at a mansion B&B in the New Forest which was owned by an ICI rep. Again any 'losses' were deductable.

Would pay you to have a consultation with an acct.

If I were you I would check the terms of your work permit. in some countries they tie you to one employer. have a look on the http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk

you may find an answer there.

Best of luck,

Paul

According to the following website, work permit holders can take additional work, provided that you comply with the requirements mentioned in the website:

UK Border Agency | Supplementary employment

Hope this helps

Thanks everyone for all their help. I'm definitely going to have to read up on all the conditions of employment and work permits before I do anything else!
