Default British Pharmacopoeia

Hi,

Just a quick question on the BP:

In identification tests and assay instructions, does anyone know what the abbreviation R which comes after the name of a compound, stands for?

Thanks

Does it mean it Is it a racemic mixture - a mixture of optically active compounds that is itself optically inactive?

R = reference substance. It's a general ref substance which you should be able to purchase from most companies. Is it says BPCRS or EPCRS that means it's a British Pharmacopoeia Ref Sub or European Pharmacopoeia ref sub, available from the BP or EP respectively.
