Help! NVQ 3. Home Office wording for CD unsupervised installment prescriptions

    Hi,

I'm a bit stuck. I am trying to find out the wording accepted by the home office for CD unsupervised installement prescriptions. I have the wording from MEP 34 (“Instalment prescriptions covering more than one day should be collected on the specified day; if this collection is missed the remainder of the instalment (i.e., the instalment less the amount prescribed for the day(s) missed) may be supplied.”) but another one of the girls at my work said that she had work sent back as the wording has changed in MEP 35. I do not have a copy of this and cant find any info on the web. Does anyone know where I can find this without having to buy MEP 35?

    Any help would be great.

    Thank you in advance

Hmm... I had a look at this for you.. It states what you posted above, plus ..."If an instalment prescription covers more than one day and is not collected on the specified day, the total amount prescribed less the amount prescribed for the days missed may be supplied",

This is just the guidance on how the prescriber wants the pharmacist to handle missed dosages.. In laymans, if a patient came in the pharmacy daily to receive drug x but missed a day, this wouldn't be so much of a problem as he would return tomorrow and be given it as usual... But in the case of instalments, if they came in twice a week, say monday and friday.. he/she would then come in on the monday and collect mon, tues, wed, thurs worth of drug x and then friday return to pharmacy, collect the rest of the weeks worth, rinse and repeat.. If the patient missed Monday and didnt make it till Wednesday.. he would lose the right to claim for Drug X which time had passed (i.e. Monday & Tuesday), he would just get everything from Wednesday till Friday..

    I hope this helps somewhat,

    André
