hey dont worry. I got in for the 2009 intake but it took them agess to get back to me. I dont know if it has changed now, but they contacted me about a month after applying for a telephone interview, and said they would get back to me by the end of the week, and even then it took a good 3 weeks. (theres me thinking they didnt want me hehe!) but dont worry no news is good news.

Also, a little advice to everyone doing industrial placements. When i applied to boots and lloyds in 3rd year for summer placements (after which they select their pre-regs) i got rejected because i hadnt done any community work and didnt have the knowledge or experience as those who spent their summers in community/hospital.. so if you are going to spend the summer in the industry, make sure you get atleast 2-3 weeks in community/hospital before its time to apply for 3rd year placements if you havnt already

I was working for BTC Sats and holidays and wanted to get industrial experience. I applied to work at Nottingham and received a memo to the effect that I was in Retail Staff Dept and that is where I should stay. ie Never the the twain should meet.
So, I applied to nearby May and Baker in Dagenham and worked there for 3 months at £4.50/week compared to £7.50/week I would have got from BTC. I was in a sterile products manufacturing laboratory and the experience put me off working in manufacturing.

i guess the pay is slightly better nowadays!!!

mine was in research and development, very exciting and all the machines use latest technologies, pretty exciting! and what i was doing was a direct application of what I had learnt at uni that same year,so the timeing was perfect! the only downfall is the lack of places, 10 places for the whole country when i applied (wait and wales and scotland too!) is truely not enough!

I was very excited to see a spectrophotometer with the flame. The company donated the model to Jamaican UWI when acquired new model using lamps. Just reminded me of the time in 1961 of being shown the company computer. All input via punch cards. It was not until 1985 that we had direct keyboard input. The information retrieval was via RAMIS (Random access management information service) Originally a prog devised for NASA and cost £22,500 from, I believe, Martin Marietta.
We had two Apple II machines with Visicalc which proved a great help at budget times.
