Placements/Interns/Pre Reg
US forums are full of angst posts by students trying to get an intern place. Read in the press today that at a recent Conservative function, Intern places in the city were auctioned off to the highest bidder. Judging by the problems in obtaining placements posted on this forum, could be that instead of being paid, interns and pre regs may have to pay the employer.
In the old days, premiums were paid by parents for their children to be given apprenticeships and the point was made when I became an apprentice that 'No premium had to be paid' . I received the munificent sum of £100 for the first year and £250 for the second.
Only wealthy people will be able to become pharmacists in the future if this trend continues. It was so in the 1800s and first half of 1900s. One way of ensuring the rich become richer and the poor keep poor.
