Question mpharm at manchester with access course

    Hi

After leaving school at 16 with 8 GCSE's 2 B's 5C's 1D and working for a while, last summer I decided I wanted to go to uni. Obviously I didn't have a levels so I decided to enrol on access to HE nursing and allied health professions. I chose to do the course over two years because at the time I was getting housing benefits and if I was a full time student I wouldn't get and at the time I really couldn't afford to lose that money.

Anyway I've finished my first year, done biology and psychology I got a pass and a merit. (it goes like fail, pass(c), merit(b) distinction(a).)
But there's nothing I want to do with this. Originally I wanted to do social work, but I find psychology so boring I don't think I could face doing it!! Nursing for me is a definite no no. I admire nurses but I have no idea how they do their job.

I could continue this course next year doing level 3 sociology and level 2 maths to get into social work/radiography/physiotherapy etc.....

    OR

I could retake the whole course in 1 year I will be full time and do access to pharmacy!! THAT IS MY DREAM! It will mean doing 3 subjects to a level standard and retaking my maths GCSE.

I live in Manchester and so the only pharmacy schools I could go to is Manchester or Liverpool. My husbands in Salford uni so there's no chance I could move anywhere or commute as mpharm is pretty full time.

I have spoken to Manchester uni and they said I need distinction in bio and chem and a merit in a third subject. So really I could do anything there.

Anyway i'm scared because if I apply to only 2 unis and don't get in what am I going to do!!!! I am willing to work my arse off to get the grades I need and get into pharmacy, but I don't have any qualifications that are solid enough for Manchester uni to think hmmm she can have a place.

Im just really scared. what are the chances of me getting into uni with an access course?

Has anyone got into pharmacy with re-take maths GCSE to get a B from a D and with an access course??

Don't want to dampen your ambitions, but if you are able do some time in a pharmacy first.
Then make a decision - 4+ years study is a long time if at the end you change your mind about it.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

Probably way too late for the OP but for any other studnet in a similar position did you know there are 2 other schools of pharmacy- Huddersfield and UCLAN within commutable distance from Manc? The commute to either of these schools os no further than Liverpool. That gives 4 choices!
