i want to do pharmacy but no chemistry background please help!

hey,
ive just recently decided i want to get into the healthcare/medicine line and pharmacy is the only thing that actually interests me.

after a bit of research ive realised im pretty much screwed because i did not take chemistry as one of my subjects in the IB but i do take physics and maths.

i know kingston do a prelim year for people who don't have a background in the right subjects but pretty much all other unis still require chemistry so i cant go down that route.

ive also heard about these access to science dipolmas and im wondering if anyone knows of where they actually do this because i've searched but i cant find any colleges near me.

I know of at least one technician who did evening classes A levels in Chemistry and Physics to compliment a existing biology A level to get into Uni to do pharmacy.

How difficult can it be with all the wonderful learning resources at your finger tips?

i applied only to univ. with a foundation year. keele, nottingham, kingston.

i have only taken, biology and anatomy. and i have an interview with Keele. if you have some science courses i would apply for a foundation year course.

Hi there,

I have just started the first year of the MPharm at Keele having completed their foundation year. My A-levels are all in arts subjects. It IS doable, and there are more and more universities offering the foundation year route.

The best thing I found about the foundation year is that it is tailored to what they will want you to know to start the MPharm, so chemistry that is relevent to biosciences etc etc.

If you can't relocate, then I think most colleges do night classes for adults to cover A-levels. Some do access courses, but be careful that it is one that will be accepted by the university. I know that some universities won't accept an "Access to HE Science" course for their Medicine/Pharmacy courses, only the "Access to HE Health" (or whatever its actually called!)

I did end up applying for foundation years but in Bath, Aston, UEA, Bradford and Manchester. But these are not Pharmacy specific ones, they are Science ones that i will use to progress onto pharmacy later.

Hopefully this may be useful to someone else later on...

well just a quick update... i got offers from both UEA and Aston! (the one from UEA was THREE days after sending off my application.....)

so i'm a happy camper right now ....but i really want to get an offer from Bath....

i'm considering studying MPharm but dont obtain the relevant appropriate subjects at a-level
I'm 18 and currently studying:

Applied ICT (Double) AS grade (AA)
Applied Business AS grade (B)
GCSE Core science

Do you think i will be considered for the foundation courses at the universitiesyou mentioned above and could you inform me what foundation courses you applied for
P.s i have also undertaken work experience at a community pharmacy
