    Pharmacy Technician course help please!

Hi, can anyone explain/help me with the following question I have been set?

Write an account on how the different routes of drug administration can affect drug action.

The earlier part of the question was defining an agonist/antagonist and writing a brief account of available routes for drug delivery which I have done but I don't quite understand what this question is asking for. I know what to do for the later question of the advantages and disadvantages of various routes of administration so what is the above question asking for?

    Thank youu xx

Suggest you list them out, ie Topical........applied to skin, noese/ear/eye drops, medicated shampoos etc.
    Oral......tablets capsules liquids
    Inhalation..........asthma sprays
    Rectal,.....suppositories.

Affecting action? Well no good using a ventolin on your bottom!

I was wondering if one point would be the time drug takes to have an effect depending on how it is administered, i.e. injection going straight into blood verses tablet having to go through the intestine, the time this takes and how both can have advantages/disadvantages?

Sublingual route also important, eg Buccastem compared to Prochlorperazine just swallowed. Subutex has to be SL as does glyc trinitrate.
Then of course, you could say enteric coated tablets are absorbed in the small intestine instead of the stomach. Peppermint oil caps release much further down.

I think in your account you need to mention absorption, first pass metabolism and bioavailability.

I know i sound so stupid but i'm ok in trying to answer but not sure if i'm giving enough information or rambling on about naff all and getting no marks.
I'm pretty far behind really but the question i'm not sure how to answer is what are the legal class of fentanyl 50 and diazepam 5mg. i'm just wondering is it as straight forward as that or do i need to go into detail about schedule 2 etc and what type of pain etc they are used for??/
    sorry for being a pain

Yep it is as straightforward as that. Fentanyl is schedule 2 cd (CD POM) and has usual requirements eg safe custody, prescription particulars, cd reg entry. Diazepam is sched 4 p1 which include most benzo's (except temazepam and midazolam which are sched 3).
