There are some threads on the student forum and pre-reg forum about rates of pay. Applying for pre-regs starting in 2011 in all three sectors usually takes place at the end of the third year so you have plenty of time to go. For now make sure you can organise a placement, whether in community, hospital or industry.

I guess it depends which area you're interested in. If you're going for hospital then it's really important to at least try and get a summer placement, so that you have a foundation of experience for your pre-registration interview. Start applying for placements asap, because even if they haven't opened applications yet, hospital will point you in the right direction in terms of application dates/deadlines/websites etc.

As for community, same thing really, sort out your placements asap, especially if you want to do your pre-reg with one of the big companies like Boots, Lloyds etc. Boots hardly take anyone on as a pre-reg if they haven't completed a summer placement first, although some of the other companies are a little bit more flexible - it really depends upon location tbh. Places where there are schools of pharmacy obviously have more demand, but Devon etc is easier to get a place because (surprisingly) no one wants to head down there.

If spp means summer placement programme then its 3 if you're using Pharmalife. Othe regions are different and its best to contact them and ask.
