    other science degrees

From what I understand through reading the posts on here there is very little industry left in the UK. So where do people who have degrees in say pharmacology or biomedical science get jobs?
I know obtaining a job isnt just on the degree you have but why take a degree where there is no immediate job afterwards

They don't. I often come across them working as assistants on minimum wage in pharmacies.

why do media studies when there is no job staright afterwards? why do sports science when there is no straight job afterwards? these questions are endless....and there is still considerable industry in Uk, just that it is demographically polarised so for some reason all the big companies have stayed away from all the big cities, so to find a job one would have to move.

To answer the question about science degrees, well there ARE jobs staright afterwards, just that you might not class them as jobs, i.e. PhDs and other further education courses, these students get a fixed tax-free stipend for which is normally 14k which equals to 17k before tax if it was a normal job, thats what i got after my degree and that was 4 years masters while a normal science degree is three years bachelors. Through this placement you make contacts with say the industrial side etc.. through affiliations, and build your way from there.

abviously the conventional jobs where companies take you on as an apprentice after your degree, but compared to other degree groups there is a huge shortage of quality science graduates so the job prospects are not bad.

There was a time when posession of a degree automatically meant you would get a job. After all Classics, and History graduates dominate the higher echelons of the civil service and diplomatic corps. Oh I forgot, these jobs were reserved for boys who had attended, Eton, Harrow, Winchester etc.
Girls who were at Benenden, Cheltenham or Roedean also had no problems in become presenters on TV.

Working class children who did media studies at Luton or similar colleges had very low chances. Best that Daddy and Mummy had been on TV before.

The role of university has changed from giving children a better chance in life, to simply keeping them off the unemployment register.

When I was at grammar school, I was told to forget about becoming a judge, stockbroker, merchant banker etc. They concentrated on preparing you for careers like pharmacy where entrance was by exam and not who your parents were or knew.

I'm afraid the situation is similar now. Granted- not as deep, but about half of these boys go to Oxbridge and are effectively sorted for life. They also rely on Mummy and Daddy to keep a roof over their head.

Apparently those who become MPs, and it appears that all the Labour front bench born with silver spoons in their mouths and just assumed that they could charge everything to the public purse. Classic case of do as I say, not as I do.

I though there was a shortage of science teachers, a good outlet for science graduates.
We definitely need some good ones.
Are children put off science because it is 'too hard'?
Or has health and safety taken away most of the experiments?
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................
