In HK, I am a part-time teacher so that I cannot work any more part-time jobs. Therefore, I would like to seek for some jobs which are closer to pharmacy and work for during the long summer. That is my reason to post a thread here and do some preparation for that, Thanks for your advice once again, Lawrence |

With your interest in psychiatric pharmacy, you could them consider applying to View Facility I think there's a link somewhere for job applicants. Jeff |

Whilst working in a community pharmacy will not provide you with much more than minimum wage it will be most relevant for your studies. You may also be able to find employment in Brighton hospital pharmacy department on weekends. You should definately try and get (psychatric) hospital experience on vacations (even if you can't get a paid position), it will provide you with experiences that community pharmacy cannot. Good luck. |

Hi. Im a third year MPharm from Brighton, and I love it you've made the right decision in coming here to study. Regarding part time work there is lots to be had, however as there is an abudance of pharmacy students pharmacy part time work is quite hard to come across, however I know several students, including myself who have worked in pharmacies part time. As for jobs in hospital I know someone working part time in the pharmacy so it is possible, they often advertise on www.nhscareers.com i think. Most students, however, tend to work in bars, shops and in and about the university. There are plenty of opportunities out there. One thing I would say is everyone goes mad the beginning of the year trying to get part-time work, so you might find it a struggle at first. In your first year of pharmacy you will get a placement in a community pharmacy, if you get on well with the boss its possible that (if they have a vancancy) they will consider you. |

Contact the Chief Pharmacist directly at the Pharmacy Department of each hospital you approach. It is best to telephone first to find our the specific name of the person you need to write to. Also send a letter to teh Human Resources Department (if you send letters to two different places then generally one will end up getting to the right person...). A list of hospitals is here: Our hospitals This lists 3 local community pharmacies which may help Brighton and Hove City PCT - Family health - pharmacists |

Good advice. I returned to work during hols at BTC simply because that is where I had done my apprenticeship. I got paid about £7/week. Others had worked on building sites and got £20/week. I wanted industrial experience, so one summer hol I worked 3 months at May and Baker. Here was paid £4.50/week almost half of what I would have earned at BTC. Put me off production work for life. When you are a student, go for the money. johnep |
