Did the RPSGB ever publish how many members they retained in 2011? Just wondering what percentage did not renew?

At the last count there were about 35,000 members of the RPS, so that's around 25% didn't renew.

Next lot of figures will be in about two months I would expect.

The begging emails and letters trying to get me to re-join seem to have finally stopped at last.

Re: Are you going to re-join the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in 2011?

I was very proud when I qualified in 1975 and became a member of the RPSGB. However, I was very dissappointed when I was a member of council of the RPSGB as I felt that not enough was done for members. I also think that there is a need for a pharmacist only organisation which is why I have set up one. I did not agree with the scientist vote. The needs of a practising pharmacist must be decided by the pharmacists themselves. I have worked in both hospital and community and also know that there are others sectors which are all important. We are diverse enough without being fooled into being "all inclusive" with
non-pharmacists. All that does is dilutes us so that the profession has no voice. I also was against the setting up of three national boards, as I saw that as triplication and was in favour of preportional representation. If 5% of pharmacist live in Wales then they should have 5% represention not the same representaion as the 85% of pharmacists that live in England. Oh for commonsense with our fees.
I did not rejoin last year and will nbot join this year either.

its quite odd for me that i have to share GPHC with technicians and RPSGB with scientists from other disciplines. means their is no seperate official council or society for just for pharmacists. its like doctors are sharing their council with nurses. its also quite painful for me that people have always been confused about this profession, dont know what to expect from pharmacist and treat them (in community) like an ordinary shop keeper and RPSGB has done nothing about it but again thats just my opinion.

There are 6 (six) "scientists" ...... who all work in pharmaceutical research or development who are scientist members of the Society. The Society has, as long as I have been a member, stressed in all it's public statements that medicines are NOT ordinary items of commerce. If YOU show that you treat medicines differently the public will, usually, respect you. I allow, of course, that there's always the odd ignorant sod, but often that's due to the action of weak pharmacists who don't assert themselves.
