    Amoxicillin loading dose?

I was working at a pharmacy this week in which a pharmacist gave out a script for amoxicillin and told the patient to take a loading dose of two capsules. However on the script the just said take one tds.

Does anyone here practice this and is it common? Ive never seen it before.

Used to be always 2stat then 1 tds.
The stat dose was supposed to get your plasma levels into a steady state above the MIC more rapidly than a single dose.

Agree with John though, antibiotic scripts dispensed in the afternoon are a good counselling opportunity, as are prednisolone 30mg short courses.

Same here - get those three doses in today, then space out. I don't normally say 2 stat unless it says that specifically on the script
