30 000 GBP NET salary - possible?

1. Is there any legal option of employing a pharmacist, except for a standard contract, which would be beneficial to the employee when it comes to paying less tax, health insurance etc. so that such an employee gets bigger NET pay?

I know that locums are self-employed but can a pharmacist be self-employed and perform exactly the same duties as if he was employed on contract? That is: work only in one pharmacy, monday to friday, 9 to 5, plus, let's say, two saturdays a month?

3. Can a pharmacist with one year's experience in retail who is on a standard contract reach or exceed the yearly salary of 30 000 GBP NET? Does it require doing much overtime? I reckon a locum can earn this easily, can't he?

Yes- go and work in the Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey); There are multiples there looking for Pharmacists, and the tax status of these islands is such that there is no income tax there, so net pay is larger.

Yes- go and work in the Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey); There are multiples there looking for Pharmacists, and the tax status of these islands is such that there is no income tax there, so net pay is larger.

The Inland revenue has already threatened the self employed status of locums. I think you'd find it difficult to say you're self employed if you only work at one store. Locums would probably hit 30k net quite comfortably because most are working through limited companies.

They will catch up with you and put you under the microscope, and you will end up paying back-tax on the 50p your mum gave you for going to the shops when you were a nipper!

But seriously...
There are advantages in being an employee. They are particularly worthwhile if you are at the 'family' stage of your life.
Paid Holiday, including bank holidays, sick pay if you are off ill, paternity/maternity. Try and get one that will pay BUPA or whatever. Get a 60mpg diesel for work and ask them to pay mileage for deliveries.

There are a range of companies willing to pay larger than 30,000 a year, if you are willing to take on a pharmacy managers role which most of my friends have then you could get over that amount and a good bonus.
Medical recruitment specialists UK have loads of jobs on offer for all the major companies all over the country so they would be able to offer you a range of choices and hopefully at a competitive salary. They got me my job and I was very happy.
