    locum jobs

Would it be a good idea to start applying for locum jobs now or wait till nearer end of pre-reg?

Not sure ... There are few enough days going at the moment anyway. The multiples like to book up as far in advance as possible. I get lists till December 2012, but not many days on them. Don't take this as an insult, but are you sure you're going to pass the registration exam? You won't be popular if you have to cancel because you didn't get registered! As I'd say to anyone wanting to go locuming, use one or two of your days off to call in to your competitors and see how their systems work. I assume you do get days off...?

As always ... Good advice from Mr Paxton!

Also remember that a locum contract is a legally binding contract. Not only will you be unpopular if you have to cancel but it may also cause you problems when (or if) the locum positions you cancel can not be filled if you do not get through the exams. You may be responsible for having to find a locum to do the work etc.

Wait until you pass, get the experience as described above and then take the plunge.
