I have seen Ensure Plus (PI) 200ml advertised in many short line wholesaler catalogues. When I speak to the wholesalers involved they tell me they sell plenty. My question is who would use this? The UK pack is 220ml and I cannot see any computer systems issuing scripts for 200ml bottles. Even a script for multiples of OP would imply multiples of 220ml (only UK size listed). Is there any way we can use the 200ml legitimately that I am not aware of.
NO. Reason why UK pack differs is to try to prevent use of PI. Dispensing 200ml instead of 220ml could be classed as fraud. If script is for 10 packs, then 11 of PI would give same volume. However, many pts receiving for first time would not know the difference. Would help to reduce surplus of pharmacists if fraudsters struck off. Unfortunately, will be some poor locum who faced with stock ordered in of 200ml, has to dispense and then as RP takes all the blame. (Mrs Smith promised these today and waiting, just check please).

Just as I thought. In my opinion giving 11 x 200ml would be incorrect as the GP has requested 10 x 220ml and the script should be dispensed in accordance the prescribers instruction. I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment re locum. (We wont be booking her/him again if they question what we give out).
that would only be worth doing if the discount you got was more than 10%. I sometimes dont dispense the quantity in accordance with what the prescriber says_ i've never dispensed 30 x 2 tablets, always pefering to give 2 lots of 30 instead !
