It is not appropriate to suggest that "techs have no ***** sense or intelligence to go to uni and complete a course." There may be any number of reasons why they didn't go to University. There are plenty of people with degrees who may know plenty about their chosen topic but actually have no common sense and are unable to perform even basic everyday tasks. Why are there pharmacists at all when these people could have trained to become Doctors instead and earned more? Is it because they don't have the "sense or intelligence "? Of course not.
Many Doctors don't like the idea of pharmacists as they feel that their work should never be questioned and now pharmacists are beginning to feel the same way about ACT's. They don't know as much as a pharmacist but they do know enough to do 80% of the pharmacists job. (Accuracy Checking prescriptions).

In answer to the original post the dispenser needs to pull their neck in and check the methadone. Everything gets checked twice and the pharmacist is the "responsible" one so what they say goes.
medicine is a degree. pharmacy is a degree. People often choose a degree. Techs have degrees?

80% ???! so what about clinical checking, any one can do a bit of accuracy checking, check the label and dose match the script great. What about clinical checking, murs, safe OTC advice, ward work, checking calculations and overall running. All that accounts to 20% then right
I'll stick my neck out and say that most scripts (repeats) get the clinical check carried out by the computer that the labels are printed on. Only acutes or changes are ever given a proper clinical check. (Have you had it before? Did it kill you?). If you do 400 MUR's at 15 minutes each in a year that's 100 hours, just under 2 hours per week. Most OTC advice is given by well trained counter staff but certainly won't take a huge slice out of your day. There is no ward work if you are not including hospital pharmacy and very little checking of calculations (beyond the occassional reducing dose).

Techs may or may not have degrees but they don't need one. You've stated "Im sorry but dispensers havent exactly had a great educational background either" which is a gross generalisation and does not recognise that dispensers are well trained to perform the tasks required of them in their jobs. The training includes clinical knowledge.

I always have to wonder if these pharmacists who are so arrogant and resentful of their fellow employees are the same ones who failed to get into medical school and who are taking their inferiority complex out on the dispensers and techs in order to reassert their own superiority over at least one group of people. Get the chip off your shoulder and recognise that you will never have the money, power or status of a doctor and learn to live with it.

Thread locked now. Too much swearing going on and far too many insults - soon this will descend into a flame thread and we're all better than that. Calm down and repect each other's opinions - don't let it become personal. 'Nuff said.
